The water level below the work on your plasma table influences many things including reducing material heat soaking and how much dross you may have to clean off the back side of the work.
Typically people just use a tape measure to fill/refill the water to the desired level. Problems include checking and rechecking, or standing there holding the tape waiting for the water to reach the end of the tape, and/or getting the end of your tape wet and needing to dry it off to prevent rusting.
